Monza offers familiarity for Takamoto Katsuta

Toyota Gazoo Racing have confirmed that up-and-coming Japanese driver Takamoto Katsuta will compete at ACI Rally Monza (04-06 December), the final round on the 2020 FIA World Rally Championship calendar.

The 27-year-old has competed in four WRC rounds so far this season and was on track for a top-five finish at Rally Estonia, before an error on Sunday’s second stage brought his weekend to a premature end.

Having previously raced in Formula 3 at national level in Japan, Katsuta is no stranger to competing on circuits, so will likely find the trip to the north of Italy in his favour.

“Honestly, I couldn’t imagine that I would be back on a circuit after joining the world of rallying from racing, especially on the Monza circuit,” Katsuta told “Monza circuit is one of the most historic circuits in the world so I’m very glad to be there!

“I think there will be less risks compared to other Tarmac rallies, so at least I can try many things,” continued Katsuta, who is currently part of Toyota Gazoo Racing’s young driver development programme.

“Hopefully my previous track experience can help a little bit for some sections.”
