Monza hosts three-way scrap for WRC3 honours

Date:

Three drivers start this weekend’s ACI Rally Monza (3 – 6 December) in contention for WRC 3 glory. But only one can take the title…

Rising talent Marco Bulacia currently sits at the top of the standings with 70 points. The youngster has enjoyed a strong season aboard his Citroën C3 R5 and even claimed a maiden victory in Mexico earlier in the year.

He’ll have to face Hyundai i20 R5 star Jari Huttunen, who will be doing everything he can to stay in front on the Italian asphalt. The Finn is 2 points further back in second, however, the odds are in his favour.

Huttunen has only started four rallies so far, which means any points he can bag at Monza will count. Should the Finn finish second or above, he will be crowned champion. If Bulacia wins and Huttunen is third, things could get a little complicated….

Skoda Fabia man Kajetan Kajetanowicz is 15 points adrift of the lead and also has an outside chance of glory if things go his way. The Pole has a non-score to his name from Estonia where he crashed out, so will also keep hold of any points scored this weekend.

In addition to the title-chasing trio, other WRC 3 entries include Oliver Solberg and Emil Lindholm driving a pair of similar Skodas, plus home hero Umberto Scandola at the wheel of his Hyundai.

Andreas Mikkelsen also makes a popular return to the WRC at the wheel of another Fabia. The Norwegian will aim to capitalise on his experience from last year’s event, when he finished third in a Hyundai i20 World Rally Car.

Tarmac titan Yohan Rossel will be another man to watch out for in his C3 machine, as well as Gregoire Munster, who also joins the exciting battle in his Hyundai.
