Brian Baragwanath grinds to a halt

Brian Baragwanath had to stop for a few minutes near km 33. The South African is back on the move, but he has lost valuable time in the process.

Carlos Sainz was just 17 seconds faster than Nasser Al-Attiyah at the first checkpoint. The Spaniard does not seem to be struggling with opening the way so far. Stéphane Peterhansel is losing 1′17″ to the leader and, therefore, a minute to Al-Attiyah, his main rival for the overall.
